Re: drop-boxes

Yes, this is a good idea.  How about setting up differenet links of folders
for these?
I think that would be just fine.  I just wonder if you would have enough space.  Several has suggested more drawings and pictures.  I am not too fond of pictures - as they really use a lot of time to download.  I don't know how to handle this, but
you should not allow pictures unless they really have value.  A lot of them could also be stored as B/W - in many cases that would be good enough.

Why I say this, - is that there should be some guide on the site, else  I  think  people may drop a lot that takes up much space. The other thing is that I have to apologize - it seems like I had attached a digest from  CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO. This was not intended :)

Working together is the key.

Yes,  I believe so.  It is just that this is not always an easy task, so I would believe that some guidelines and rules should be thought of - from the start.   This was a bit what I had in mind when I suggested the use of Fred's list, and add subtitles, etc.   By using some form of a common "heading" as a template,  then I thought this could make it easier to sort it later on.

I hope that doing it in some organized form, - then people would find it easier to take part in it. I feel a bit sorry for Jon Elson and the FAQ, - because this has been something he has been doing alone. Somehow it should be done in some way that people would like to take part in it.  I don't mean that they didn't with the FAQ - but you were never really sure if you should send something or not, - and in many cases I think that people may just have some comments to add.  Maybe a "drop- comment" too ?  With a template or form ?

I just don't really know, - but I think it would pay off to give it some thought on how to structure the thing.

A lot good stuff has been said on the   CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO list, the sad thing is that a lot of it don't get used in a better way.  It would be a big task to try to put together something from that list.  So,  how to get people to write in a way that this can come to better use, and then update the stuff with other peoples comments ?

Example:

I could write I piece under "platforms supported", a subsection on 486. ( this is what I think I could add a few lines on )
Then,  several would like to come with some comments to this.

After some time, - you may have this little original "article", plus some comments from several others.  Could this be mailed back to this group of people, asking to do some reworking on the stuff, and mail it back ?
This way, people would have to take responsibility and would be force to work a little bit together in doing an  updated version.

Well,  I just try to think out some way this might be done, - because I don't like the idea that some should get the full work load on this alone.

Maybe ask people from NIST for some help ?   ( They should be good at automating stuff like this )

The thing is that I do believe that things could be done better and more interesting,  than what you often see on the web. That is, someone has spent much time and effort alone,  and in the end the whole thing lives on just as long they have time and interest in it.  Some of this people also end up in an unappreciated situation, serving a lot of other people, with not much in return.

Well,  I just come with a few thoughts - that is all I have enough of :)
