Re: User list: More info wanted

The first machine I installed EMC on was a Compaq Presario 1925 laptop
Celeron 400Mhz. It is running Linux kernel 2.4.4-rtl, with the rtlinux 3.1
patches. I tweaked at it for a few days to get EMC to run. The sole
purpose of installing it on this machine was so I could take it to the Robot
Power Lunch meetings of the Dallas Personal Robotics Group (www.dprg.org) to
demo EMC running in simulation mode.

After I got that running, I dug an old machine out and built it up to run a
small mill I am building from scratch. It is an exercise to see how low I
can go for a complete mill. The PC has an old 486 motherboard (VLB) with an
Evergreen P133 upgrade chip. It is running BDI 2.09 with no problems so
far. The hardest thing about this machine was finding an old VGA card that
would work with X Windows. This machine is connected to a Dan Mauch stepper
driver board mounted in a SCSI drive case (great little power supply). The
X-Y table is built from the remains of two old Microtek flat bed scanners.
I have yet to add a Z axis (I am open to suggestions on how to do this), but
a pen mounted over the table traces patterns on paper exactly as I would
have expected.
