First thing I'd do is try reducing steps per inch to something around 4-5 k.
That should give the average user about 1/4 of a tenth accuracy.  See how
well the frequency generator software does at that.

Reducing the max_velocity will also change the equasion some I
think.

Just an idea here but since you have the equipment to measure these things,
how about setting up a test schedule and running various period parameter
settings, various steps per inch settings, various max_velocity, and various
speeds.  This would at least give us some benchmark of performance.

Then if you write html, we could put the results up on linuxcnc.org.  Or
write it as text and graphics and I can convert it here.  Or send results
and we'll find someone to write it up.
