We, also, intend to do this.  The one difficulty is the massive proliferation
of PC hardware, and especially the network cards and video cards.
As long as one makes sure these cards are supported by the Linux
distribution that you choose, then it is at least possible.  But, there is
still some configuration of network setup and the proper parameters
for at least 800 x 640 video that has to be done by some outside
mechanism.  At least, Red Hat 5.2 left this up to me to do manually.
I understand the hardware quite well, the fine points of Linux somewhat
less well, but I was able to get it all working.  But, it was not a put in
the CD and hit return procedure in these two areas.

The actual install of EMC was no big deal at all, compared to the
net and video stuff.


Maybe I shouldn't speak for others, but I suspect we all are interested
in what you are cooking up!
